For decades, Jewish identity in Israel has been experienced in polar terms encapsulated by the 'secular-religious' dichotomy. Either or.
This is no longer the case. A new kind of identity is emerging in Israel, one that overcomes longstanding barriers and allows for richer, more fulfilling personal and community experiences.
Today thousands of young Israelis are intellectually progressive and sophisticated, on the one hand, yet culturally and spiritually connected to Jewish texts and traditions, on the other. These young adults are redefining for themselves what it means to be an Israeli Jew. Together, they are creating new visions and opportunities for the Jewish State.
Ein Prat – The Academy for Leadership is an incubator for these modern-day pioneers. A pluralistic Beit Midrash serving hundreds of young adults each year, Ein Prat enhances Jewish identity, strengthens Israel's social fabric, and serves as a bridge between the country's next generation and young Jews the world over.
Ein Prat is Israel's largest provider of intensive pluralistic Jewish educational programming. Students live on site in dormitory-style conditions and spend the majority of their waking time learning and analyzing texts in the Beit Midrash. Each student pays a fee to cover part of his/her participation costs and subsidies are made available in all appropriate cases. The programs range from one to four months in length, demanding a serious commitment from students in time and effort and, in turn, inspiring passion for Jewish life and learning.
Numbering over 1,000, Ein Prat's community of graduates is a diverse, dynamic and distinctly Israeli group of young adults. Community members share deep appreciation for their Jewish roots, optimistic love of the Jewish State, and ambition to add value to society. These graduates constitute a growing community with increasing influence – student leaders on local university campuses, activists campaigning for worthwhile causes, aspiring professionals, and dedicated volunteers. Through a combination of intellectual and social activities throughout the year, Ein Prat nurtures the Jewish and Zionist identity of its graduates, their connection to one another, and their ideas for enhancing Israeli society.
